Linocut print ,,Boris the cat" A4
Boris the Cat — Linocut Print
Some cats leave paw prints on your life long after they are gone.
Boris was a real cat. My cat. He was 27 years old, and somehow managed to carry himself like he had been the rightful king of the house for every one of those years.
He was black, with the marks of a life well lived — a piece missing from one ear, only one eye, and teeth a little larger and stranger than they were supposed to be. He carried his battle scars without losing any of his dignity. There was something almost ancient about him.
Boris was calm and observant. He would sit and look at you with the unmistakable expression of a cat who knew exactly what was happening in his kingdom. But he never treated people as his servants. Beneath that quiet, regal presence was an incredibly gentle, beautiful, and loving cat.
He has sadly passed away, but he is still with me every day. This print is my way of keeping a little piece of him here.
Boris the Cat is not meant to be a perfect portrait. It is how I remember and see him — strong, intelligent, sophisticated, slightly battle-worn, and at the same time warm and friendly. A cat who had every reason to look intimidating, yet somehow made you feel safe.
The artwork was hand carved into a lino block and hand pressed, printed entirely in black. The strong monochromatic design reflects Boris's dark coat while giving the portrait a timeless, almost graphic quality.
Because every print is made by hand, each impression may vary slightly. Differences in ink coverage, texture, pressure, and other small details are a natural part of the printing process. These variations make every individual print a little different and carry the trace of the hand that made it.
The printed artwork is approximately A4 in size, while the paper itself is slightly larger, leaving room around the print and allowing flexibility when choosing a frame.
